WHAT IS A SPIRITIST GROUP?
Spiritist groups, centers, or societies are places where people come together to learn about Spiritism in a welcoming and accepting environment.

WHAT ACTIVITIES DO SPIRITIST GROUPS OFFER?
Spiritist centers are volunteer-run groups that offer different opportunities for learning and personal growth. Typical activities may include lectures, study groups, youth groups, mediumship training classes, book clubs, community service activities, and more.
Most activities at a Spiritist group are open to the general public and can be joined at any time. Others, like mediumship training classes and some study groups, may have pre-requirements and are generally closed to the public to help foster an atmosphere of trust and collaboration and ensure a good learning environment for participants.
ARE THERE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN SPIRITIST GROUPS?
No two Spiritist groups are ever exactly alike as there is no central organization or hierarchy in Spiritism. We recommend you research or visit a couple to find one that offers activities that interest you and in which you feel most comfortable. Many offer online activities you can attend from the comfort of your home. Please visit our list of groups to find out more about Spiritist societies in California.
ARE THERE COSTS OR FEES TO ATTEND A SPIRITIST GROUP?
There are no fees to attend these activities or participate in a Spiritist group. Spiritists believe in “freely giving” what we “freely received.” That is to say: because the spirit teachings we study were given to us for free by evolved spirits, we do not think we should charge for them. We want everyone to feel welcome in a Spiritist group.
Spiritist groups, however, do rely on their members and visitors to maintain their physical infrastructure. In most centers, members donate what they can to cover costs associated with rent, power, cleaning, etc.
